I know rumours abound at this time of year, but has anyone else heard that Shaun has signed/will sign for Eastleigh?

BSS website says Shaun has signed for Eastleigh.

BSS Website is incorrect.

Shaun's contract was retained by the club and although he may have agreed terms with Eastleigh, the clubs are yet to confirm the final parts of the deal and we still retain both his contract and his registration.

When everything is concluded then there will be confirmation on either the website or the forum.

If he is under contract then surely the club should have been approached first? If a player is under contract, then he should not be talking to other clubs? Perhaps in this day and age agents do all the talking and we, like so many clubs, are just presented with a 'done deal'. I would hope that we need to keep our better players and add to their number, perhaps Dev has a replacement already lined up? If so, coupled with the Collins signing that Dev indicated he could go and that he goes with his blessing.

Shaun was on our retained list, which means that although he can speak to other clubs if he wishes to move a fee must be agreed or it goes to tribunal.

This is one of the laws brought in to protect clubs against losing their youngsters to bigger clubs.

Thanks Stef for the information. Does the players age have a bearing? I thought that under 24 made a difference?

Being under 24 means that when your contract expires, you can move on a Bosman style transfer, but if it is to a club in the same country of governing FA a compensation fee must be paid. If they were to move to say Scotland, Wales, or abroad no fee would be required.

If would assume from what has been said on here that he was given permission to talk terms with Eastleigh, and see if he could agree terms, then now the clubs can negotiate.

Realistically if any fee is paid it's going to be minimul, it's not like it's Daniel Sturridge moving from Man City to Chelsea. If there is a fee I'd be very surprised if it's more than a grand or so as it takes into account how long he's been with the club etc. If he had been at Hampton since age 10 then the club could say they have spent alot on his footballing development.

Surely this is a bad move for Hampton? Shaun always seemed a decent player whenever I saw him play.

According to one of the Eastleigh sites they are quoting an article from the local paper stating that the letter from the club [which should have been sent recorded delivery] telling him we were retaining his registration was not, according to Shaun, received by him. There are certain proceedures to follow as laid down by the FA and I have no idea what actually happened. It's all academic now, but if there was 'an admin malfunction', worth remembering for the future?

So on that basis can we assume that he has gone officially - or is this going to turn into another new stand saga with weeks of did he or didnt he and he said she said. Either the club gave him the recorded letter or they didnt and therefore he has signed for them or he is still a hampton player.

Not really interested in waiting 3 weeks to see if the "official response" is posted on the website. Rather someone would just be kind enough to post the latest situation on here.

Cheers

This is not an official response!

However, Shaun is one of the coaches at the Trust`s Soccer School this week and yes, he has joined Eastleigh, and he reckons that he left on good terms with Dev.

So from that can we assume that Hampton will not be trying to get a fee for him?

If he still is local to Hampton he can't be leaving due to travel issues. Maybe he doesn't think he is valued enough at Hampton or doesn't get enough games - by that i mean first choice in a certain position.

Seems strange to me.

I have heard that although he still lives fairly locally, Shaun now works in or around Eastleigh. Obviously this makes travelling for training and midweek matches difficult. If anyone finds the missing Recorded Delivery receipt we may find out what happened. I share der Zwerg's frustration and shall not be holding my breath.

That is a real shame if he has gone. He may not have been mr consistent last season but he always had the ability to change a game with the exact attributes that the eastleigh lot describe in their match report. For me he was one player that we definetly need in the squad / midfield if we were going to get out of this league and I am struggling to understand why we have let him go so easily. But what do I know!!! Good luck Shaun. Looking forward to giving you some jip when you come back to play against us
