From your Local guardian web site:

Beavers boss Alan Devonshire is hoping new man Robbie Kember can bring the eye of the tiger to his midfield after snapping up the former Eastbourne Borough midfielder.

The 26-year-old - son of former Crystal Palace boss Steve - signed for Hampton & Richmond Borough this week and featured in last night's friendly with West Ham United.

Devonshire has moved to fill the void left by the departed Elliott Godfrey and Kelvin MacIntosh, and is running the rule over a number of trialists to further strengthen his squad.

Wimbledon-born Kember joined Eastbourne mid-way through last season from Crawley Town, but an ankle injury ruled him out of the club's 2-0 Blue Square South play-off final triumph over Hampton in May.

And Devonshire reckons he can add an aggressive edge to his midfield having tracked the player for the past two seasons.

"I'd describe him as a tigerish midfielder. He can get around the park and can pass the ball as well," he said.

"I've followed him for a few years and we will see how it goes for him over the next few weeks.

"I'm still looking at other options because I still think we are bit short in one or two areas. There are some trialists who look like they could do a job for us."

Devonshire has welcomed back 19-year-old Jack Francis from a season-long loan spell with Ryman LEague Division One South side Walton Casuals.

He is hunting a defensive replacement for Alan Inns, who quit the club for AFC Wimbledon last month, and believes Francis may be ready to make the step up.

"He will be given a crack over pre-season. I think a lot of him. He has got a great attitude and can play in a few positions for us," he added.

"I watched him a lot at Walton last year and I think he did very, very well for them and has learnt a lot from the experience.

"His size is an issue if we play him at centre-back but he could be ready."

I thought the West Ham game was tonight, not last night!
