I shall have to find another player to sponsor now,
INNS MOVING ON
Hampton & Richmond Borough have confirmed that Alan Inns is leaving the Beavers and signing for AFC Wimbledon.
Supporters will be shocked and saddened at the departure of Inns who has become, without doubt, one of the most popular players in recent times. The departure of Inns severs one of the last remaining ties with the pre-Devonshire era (only Dudley Gardner, player coach, now remains from then).
It is very unusual these days for a player to stay so long with one club.
Inns appeared in 271 games, scoring 26 goals and made his debut on the 17th September 2002 against Bedford Town, having joined the Beavers from Wokingham Town. Inns, a PE Teacher, quickly established himself in the side as a wholehearted player, despite the fact that the team were destined to finish bottom of the Isthmian Premier Division.
When Alan Devonshire took over in the summer of 2003 Alan Inns was one of only three players who were retained by the incoming manager. Inns said at the time that he wasn`t sure whether his style of play would fit with the new manager but a few games into the new season an opportunity arose and thereafter Inns became a regular in the side and has remained so until now. Whilst with Hampton & Richmond Borough, Alan won the Ryman Isthmian League Championship, two Middlesex Senior Cups and a Middlesex Super Cup.
Inns is equally comfortable in defence or midfield and makes an excellent target man up front for crosses from corners, free kicks and long throws.
The Beavers wish Alan every success in his future football career and thank him for his loyal and totally committed play these past six years (he probably has a scar for each year!). Inns can certainly be assured of a generous and warm welcome from Hampton fans when he re-appears at The Beveree playing for his new club.
